Family Support Volunteer

Organization: Regional Hospice and Palliative Care (RHPC)

As a Family Support Volunteer (FSV), you’ll visit with people who are transitioning to death. This is often a deeply meaningful experience and a way towards better understanding and accepting the profound process of death and dying.

Successful Family Support Volunteers are good listeners who have compassion and the desire to support people at end of life. This could mean anything from reading to or conversing with patients to simply being a quiet presence at bedside or even offering respite to caregivers. There is no “hands-on” care provided.

Volunteers meet with patients in the patient’s home or at an in-patient facility usually 1x/week for up to an 1.5-hours until there is no longer a need. Schedules are very flexible, and a thorough 20-hour training is provided. We have deep appreciation for our volunteers and we are committed to supporting them in their role!
